Case material must be preserved in a form that allows its source, integrity, handling and relevance to be assessed. Prosecutors should distinguish allegation, intelligence, evidence, legal advice and court material.

Sensitive records require proportionate access controls. Legal professional privilege, personal information, safeguarding information and live-case restrictions must be respected.

Digital or platform evidence should record its source, date, preservation method and any access or authenticity issue. A screenshot or message is not made reliable merely because an official account can see it.
